SMECO Employees Help Florida Restoration Efforts
On October 2, five Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative employees drove to southwest Florida to assist in restoration efforts following a devastating blow from Hurricane Ian.
SMECO Holds 84th Annual Meeting
More than 8,600 voted in SMECO’s election of its Board of Directors for the next three year. The incoming directors are: W. Michael Phipps of Calvert County; George Heinze and Richard A. Winkler of Charles County; James A. Richards of Prince George’s County; and Scott White of St. Mary’s County.
Eight in Running for 5 SMECO Board Seats
There are eight Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative customer-members running for five seats on the board of directors. SMECO members may cast ballots by mail or online.
SMECO Elects Board @ 82nd Annual Meeting
SMECO held its 82nd annual meeting August 27, 2020, at the cooperative’s headquarters in Hughesville, MD. The Board of Directors election was conducted online and by mail prior to the meeting.
Hance-Wells New SMECO Director
Susie Hance-Wells of Prince Frederick has been appointed to the SMECO Board of Directors to fill the unexpired portion of Samuel “Jack” Hammett’s three-year term, which ends in 2021.
Cox Named New SMECO CEO
Sonja M. Cox has been named as the new president and CEO of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative.
Slater Announces Retirement as SMECO CEO
Austin J. Slater Jr., president and CEO of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative, announced his retirement Oct. 15 at the co-op’s monthly board meeting.
Board Members Elected at SMECO Meeting
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative elected members to its board of directors Aug. 23 at its 78th annual customer-members meeting at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, where it has been held since 2009.
