A Crownsville man is the new Maryland state record holder for Chesapeake Channa, also known as the northern snakehead. The fish weighed 21.8 pounds and was more than 36 inches long.

Navy Recruiting Rebounds, FY24 Goals Surpassed

The US Navy says it has surpassed its recruiting goals for fiscal 2024, which ended Oct. 1. This comes after the service had failed to meet its accession targets for the first time ever last year. At one point, officials had projected missing recruiting targets by roughly 6,700 for FY24.

DNR Offers Grants for Invasive Fish Removal

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is accepting applications for invasive fish control grants of up to $5,000. The grant program seeks to support ways to remove invasive fish, particularly blue catfish and Northern snakeheads, from Maryland waters.
