CSM’s Gottfried Announces Plans to Retire

Dr. Brad Gottfried, president of the College of Southern Maryland, has announced his intent to retire on June 30, 2017. Appointed CSM’s fourth president in 2006, Gottfried has had a significant impact on the college, including expanding the college with a regional Hughesville campus, increasing CSM’s partnerships and articulations, and keeping higher education affordable and accessible.

CSM Veterans Lounge Gets Facelift

College of Southern Maryland has created a space for student veterans to relax, study, and be with their peers on the La Plata campus, and US Rep. Steny H. Hoyer recently visited the campus to check it out. The Veterans Lounge includes computers, work tables, a projector and podium for lectures, and a comfortable seating area to give students a place to connect with fellow military veterans, study, gather, and support each other.

CSM Earns Workplace Excellence Award

The College of Southern Maryland was one of 53 companies nationally to earn the 2016 Alliance for Workplace Excellence Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval Award and one of 37 companies to earn the 2016 AWE Health & Wellness Seal of Approval Award.

CSM Twilight Series Ends 10th Season

The 10th season of the College of Southern Maryland’s Twilight Performance Series has come to an end. For another year audiences were captivated by Chautauqua’s historical portrayals of 20th-century composer Duke Ellington, poet Gwendolyn Brooks, and novelist Ernest Hemingway, as well as musical and theatrical performances.

Slagle Earns Chamber Scholarship for CSM

William T. “Tyler” Slagle, 17, of Faulkner is the recipient of the 2016-17 Charles County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship established with the College of Southern Maryland Foundation. Slagle will attend CSM to pursue studies in business administration.

Hoyer Speaks at Roundtable on Veterans

Walls Earns Regents Scholarship to UMBC

James Walls, a graduate of College of Southern Maryland, has been named a Gross Regents Scholar, earning a scholarship to attend the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Walls is a 21-year-old Hughesville resident.
