234 Bridge Repair Plans

The double punch of Hurricane Irene in August and tropical storm Lee in September left the bridge at Allen’s Fresh on Route 234 washed out completely. Wednesday night, officials from the Maryland State Highway Administration held a meeting in La Plata to explain the extent of the damage done to this vital Southern Maryland transportation link and detail plans for the installation of a temporary bridge and eventual repair of the span.

SHA announced last week that a temporary steel span would be put into place by late November to serve motorists until the bridge is repaired.
