Math Competition Goes Virtual

Social distancing precautions took the 2021 MATHCOUNTS competition to a virtual platform. During the event held February 5-6, local middle schoolers enjoyed the fast-paced challenge testing their math skills.

1st SMECO EV Charging Station Opens

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative opened its first EV Recharge public charging station for electric vehicles at the St. Mary’s County Public Library and Garvey Activity Senior Center on Hayden Farm Lane in Leonardtown. The station has 24-hour access.

SMECO Scholarship Applications Available

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative is offering college scholarships for the 2021-2022 school year. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

Charging Station Available at Town Library

The first of 20 electric vehicle charging stations to be built in St. Mary’s County is now operational at the Leonardtown Library.

Nominate an Outstanding STEM Teacher

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative and the school systems in Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary’s counties are looking for nominees the 2021 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Awards for educators who exemplify excellence in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Deadline for nominations is January 29, 2021.

Lower SMECO Energy Rates in Effect
