SMECO Adjusts Its Energy Charges
Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative received approval from the Maryland Public Service Commission to adjust its energy charges. New Standard Offer Service rates will go into effect with February 2022 bills.
SMECO Update on EV Charging Stations
As of December 31, 2021, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has installed 17 Level 2 electric vehicle chargers and three Level 3 DC fast chargers in the region.
SMECO: Power Restoration to Be Completed Friday
As of 2:30 pm Friday, January 7, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has nearly all of its crews and contractors working in the Nanjemoy, Grayton, and Indian Head areas of Charles County. SMECO expects to have “everyone’s power restored tonight.”
SMECO Power Restoration Nears Completion
As of 9 pm Thursday, January 6, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has substantially completed power restoration in Calvert, Prince George’s, and St. Mary’s counties. Remaining outages in Charles County are expected to be addressed by Friday evening.
SMECO Continues Power Restoration Work
As of 12:15 pm Thursday, January 6, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has about 1,626 members without electric service following Monday’s snowstorm.
Power Restoration Update From SMECO
Between 6:30 am Monday and 11:15 am Wednesday, January 5, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has had 78,600 customers affected by power outages; some of these have experienced multiple interruptions. More than 72,300 have had power restored.

3 Students Earn Just Society Scholarships
The St. Mary’s County Just Society Scholarship was awarded to three high school students for their artistic submissions associated with racial justice as it relates to the lynching of Benjamin Hance in 1887, the only recorded lynching in the county’s history.
SMECO Employees Raise Funds for Food Bank
A successful benefit golf tournament sponsored by Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative employees resulted in a $45,637 donation to the Southern Maryland Food Bank.
