Female Draft in Congress Again
It’s the same set-up as last year, the annual defense bill includes a provision requiring women as well as men between the ages of 18 and 25 to register with the Selective Service System against the possibility of a military draft. Same as last year, conservatives oppose “drafting our daughters.”
Hike in Hazardous Duty Pay Proposed
A proposal in the House NDAA would give servicemembers a 10% increase in hazardous duty pay next year. The proposal has the potential to add up to $300 a year in extra pay for tens of thousands of troops stationed in imminent danger areas or performing dangerous jobs like flight deck duty or demolitions work.
House Proposes EA-18G “Growler” Funding
The House adds $450 million to the Navy’s proposed fiscal 2015 budget for five Boeing EA-18Gs, 17 short of the desired 22 aircraft.
