St. Mary’s Chamber Hires New Director

Paul Junge, president/CEO, St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce

The board of directors of the St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the hiring of Paul Junge (pronounced Young) as the chamber’s new president and CEO.

Mr. Junge is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the University of San Diego School of Law. He has most recently served as investigative counsel for the US Senate Judiciary Committee. In that role he conducts oversight of government agencies which includes interviewing of witnesses, convening staff briefings, and drafting letters and reports to ensure the cost-effective and proper functioning of executive branch agencies.

Mr. Junge previously worked as vice president, director of public policy at the Oakland, CA, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce. He also served as the executive director of the Oakland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce’s Political Action Committee.

Before entering his career of community service and policy development work, Mr. Junge had a career as a television news anchor/reporter working in several states across the US. In addition, Mr. Junge served as a deputy district attorney in Ventura County, CA, where he prosecuted a variety of criminal cases. All of these experiences demonstrate his ability to confidently interact with senior officials and act as a credible representative in any setting.

The St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce conducted a nationwide search for the organization’s new president. Members of the search and selection committee noted the array of Mr. Junge’s educational and professional pursuits demonstrate the ability to meet the most important elements needed to successfully serve as chamber president: Work effectively in groups. Lead effective teams. Quickly assimilate information. Produce persuasive written and verbal presentations that contribute to the goals of any organization.

For his part, the new chamber president brought a knowledge and favorable memories of St. Mary’s County. Mr. Junge also has worked for a government contracting firm. It was working as a government contractor that first brought him to St. Mary’s County when his firm performed a housing maintenance contract at Patuxent River Naval Air Station.

“The St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce works to maintain a favorable business climate in St. Mary’s County by assisting in the development, growth, and promotion of business,” according to the mission on its website. The chamber encourages business and industrial investment in the community, supports education at all levels, promotes tourism, and strives toward the creation of more jobs in St. Mary’s County. The St. Mary’s County Chamber of Commerce was founded in 1974 and is currently a member of both the US and Maryland Chambers of Commerce.
