Pool in Great Mills Reopens

GM Pool

Now that mechanical repairs have been completed, the Great Mills Swimming Pool has reopened for normal operations.

The St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation and Parks has issued a news release thanking the public for being patient during the time that the facility was closed.

A new water heater has been installed in the facility, and the water temperature has returned to an appropriate level for use by the public.

The pool is a great spot in St. Mary’s County for water recreation, aquatic physical therapy, swimming lessons, and competitive swimming for swimmers of all ages. The facility offers a structure that is is 25 yards by 25 meters and has six swimming lanes, plus a zero-depth entry to make it more accessible.

During the colder months from September to May, the pool is covered with an air-inflated bubble to it can be used throughout the winter. In the warmer months, it is an outdoor pool. The pool offers showers, lockers, restrooms, and a lifeguard room.

The Great Mills pool is normally kept between 79 and 82 degrees, the typical temperature for publicly used pools. Increasing the temperature of the pool uses considerable energy, so pool staff keep the water at the normal temperature range.

For more information or questions about the pool, please call the St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation and Parks at 301-475-4200, ext. 1800 or call the pool office at 301-866-6560.

The pool is at 21100 Great Mills Road, Great Mills, MD.
