The Patuxent Partnership, BECA (Business, Education and Community Alliance) and SMCPS are once again partnering to place students in meaningful internships within our business community.

Internships are a valuable tool for both student and employer; students are able to gain real-world experience in a chosen field while offering employers the potential to cultivate a future employee.

Last year, we received more than 175 requests for internships from our high school and college students.  Student interest and skillsets ranged from administrative to autonomous systems.  There truly is a student for every program and office.

For the 2014 Summer Internship program, we are asking employers to identify specific skillsets needed and the details of the internship (hours, paid or unpaid, etc.).  The students will complete a basic application and will read descriptions of the internships offered. They will check off all internships for which they are qualified and for which they wish to apply. We will forward to you the complete application of every student who applies for your internship.  The employer will then conduct interviews and select the student(s) to whom they wish to offer internship(s).

Please consider participating in this valuable program – without employer sponsorship, students do not have an opportunity to learn, gain experience, and make knowledgeable decisions about their career paths.  The internship experience is an important component of future workforce development.

If your company is interested in sponsoring a summer intern, please complete the sponsorship application on the BECA website.  In order to maintain the integrity of the application process, sponsors will be prompted for a password; please use TPP-BECA.

You may also email questions about the process to Mark G. Smith at [email protected], or by phone at (301) 475-0242 x 28125.
