‘Chasing the Dragon’ Teaches About Opioid Abuse

St. Mary’s County citizens have seen far too much of the devastating impact of drug addiction. To help educate the community about the dangers of opioid use and addition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration have created a documentary called “Chasing the Dragon” that is available for viewing, with help from Walden.

Walden Raises Awareness of Drug Overdoses

In early September, Walden invited members of the community to participate in International Overdose Awareness Day by walking a complicated maze, encouraging inner reflection and peace. The event, held at Beacon of Hope, was attended by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office as well as members of the community.

Stars Are Out to Support Walden Sierra

Walden Sierra’s The Stars Are Out Tonight is the organization’s third fundraising evening of strolling entertainment to bolster the nonprofit agency’s services. It will be held Friday, Sept. 23, 2016, at Olde Breton Inn at 21890 Society Hill Road in Leonardtown. The event will begin at 7 p.m.

Although parents almost never want to admit that their children might be abusing drugs, often the signs of drug abuse were there before the parents knew what they were seeing. This was the message of one of three seminars that focused on the drug abuse epidemic in St. Mary’s County, hosted by the sheriff’s office, public schools; and agencies such as Walden Behavioral Health.

Parents can learn about how drug misuse is affecting young people in St. Mary’s County at a seminar 5 to 7 pm April 7, hosted at St. Mary’s County Public Schools Central Administration Office at 23160 Moakley St. in Leonardtown.
