SMECO Crews Tackled Outages After Weekend Storm

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative crews worked throughout the night on Saturday, July 29, to restore electric service to members who were affected by power outages from severe weather.

Capital Credits Refunded to SMECO Members

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative is refunding members’ capital credits totaling nearly $5.6 million. Of that total, a general refund of approximately $3 million will be issued in July.

SMECO Warns of Scammer Threats

SMECO members have reported receiving calls from scammers threatening to disconnect their power if they don’t make a payment. Do not make a payment until you’ve checked your account balance. SMECO will not call and threaten to disconnect your power in 30 minutes.

SMECO’s Math Challenge Winners

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative co-sponsored the annual Elementary Mathematics Challenge Competition for fourth- and fifth-graders in March 2023.

Deadline April 6 to Apply for SMECO Scholarship

Each year, the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative awards four $2,500 college scholarships to high school seniors who live in the co-op’s service area. The application deadline is Thursday, April 6, 2023.

SMECO Nominating Committee to Meet

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors has appointed 10 members to the 2023 Nominating Committee scheduled to meet Wednesday, May 10. The committee will review candidate applications for the five board positions to be elected this year.
