Healthy Partnership Plans Annual Meeting
MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital supports the Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership which will host its second annual meeting from 8 am to noon Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in California, MD.
The meeting is an an opportunity for participants to network, learn from public health experts and receive updates on coalition-wide business. Registration for this event is free and CEUs will be provided.
The Healthy Eating & Active Living Action Team is pleased to welcome James P. McVey, Ph.D as a presenter for the meeting. Dr. McVey is a marine ecologist, marine aquaculturist and a Master Gardener. He currently serves as vice president of Indigo Seafood, a LLC company focused on marine aquaculture and is the organizer and coordinator for Annmarie Children’s Garden in Calvert County. He has an extensive background in research and development projects related to aquaculture and biology. Dr. McVey will discuss the importance of community gardens for health, education, and drawing the community together.
The Tobacco Free Living Action Team is excited to announce that Dr. William Tilburg will speak at the meeting. He is deputy director of the Legal Resource Center for Public Health Policy at the University of Maryland School of Law. He provides technical legal assistance on a broad spectrum of public health issues, including tobacco use, to state and local legislators, health officials, and non-government organizations in Maryland and throughout the Northeast.

The Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership is a community-driven coalition of partners working together to improve health in St. Mary’s County. The coalition mobilizes members through four action teams to address the priority health issues in St. Mary’s: Access to Care, Behavioral Health, Healthy Eating & Active Living and Tobacco Free Living. The Healthy St. Mary’s Partnership is seeking nominations for the elected positions of HSMP Co-Chair, Vice-Chair, and Action Team Co-Chairs. Individuals serving in these roles provide overall leadership for HSMP and its action teams.
