St. George Island Oyster Scald Dec. 6

Message from the Cap’n is a compilation of fishing advice, waterman and weather insights, Chesapeake lore, and ordinary malarkey from the folks who keep their feet wet in the Potomac and St. Mary’s rivers.

St. George Island Improvement Association will welcome many oyster lovers for our annual Oyster Scald — Dec. 6, noon to 3pm, at the SGIIA community center, first building on the left on Thomas Road on St. George Island.

The Cap’n

We generally hold several fundraisers a year to improve our community center but this oyster scald is held to show appreciation to all who support our efforts.

The Island Improvement Association accepts donations to benefit the rehabbing of our community center, but there is no charge for the oyster scald. The event is open to all preservationists, close and far, who support our sense of community for the Island. Many have family and friends who live on St George Island and also relatives buried here as well.

The  event starts at noon and lasts until 3pm. The menu will include scalded oysters (bring your own knife if you like them raw), hot dogs, chili, and BBQ. As well as stuffed ham and bean soup, cornbread, and many other side dishes.

Hope to see you there!

Till next time, remember “It’s Our Bay, Let’s Pass It On.”
