UPDATE: ANNUAL SOUP COOK-OFF CANCELED

Leonardtown, MD – Unfortunately, due to a low number of competitor entries, the 2016 Forrest Center Soup Cook-off has been canceled.  The event had been scheduled for Wednesday, March 2.

The Forrest Center staff and students hope to offer a similar event next school year but in a slightly different format during the fall semester.  For more information, contact Chef Amanda Granados at 301-475-0242, 28210 or [email protected].

The Dr. James A. Forrest Career & Technology Center is offering a chance for local residents to get a taste of what both today’s and tomorrow’s chefs are cooking. The center has revived its Soup Cook-Off and is inviting the public to the event March 2, 2016, at the school.

Students, who have been learning the art of making meals, will cook alongside adults, who have mastered the art. There will be two age groups, a junior division for students and a senior division for adults. The cooking starts at 3 ; doors open to the public at 5 pm. Tasting and judging of the junior division will begin at 5:30 pm, which will be followed by the senior division.

Sample soups and participate in the event. Soups will be grouped in six categories and will be judged by expert chefs, local celebrities and community leaders.

Make a meal of the event: culinary students will provide house soups. Tickets will get participants both contest and house soup sampling. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for students, and children younger than 4 are admitted free.

The contest is open to the first 15 individuals or teams of up to three who register. Contestants can use the facility and will have access to necessary equipment but must provide their own ingredients. Chilis and stews also can be entered, even though they are not traditionally considered a soup.

The center’s graphic communications program might produce a cookbook. Contestants can be included in the cookbook if they wish, but they must provide a copy of their recipe.

Businesses and organizations that would like to sponsor the event will be given free passes to the event and will be recognized during the event.

The event may be recorded and presented on the school system’s Channel 96 and on the Internet.

Proceeds will go to the Forrest center’s programs and SkillsUSA student organization. For more information on registration or sponsorship, contact Chef Amanda Granados at 301-475-0242 or by email.
