Players Present ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’

Newtowne Players

Watch the 1920s roar again on Oct. 13, 2016, when The Newtowne Players perform “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” at Three Notch Theatre at 21744 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park MD.

“Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” based on the popular comic novel by Anita Loos and adapted by Kristen Sergel, later became a hit musical and two successful films. Performances will be Thursday through Saturday at 8 pm and Sundays at 3:30 pm, with the final performance on Sunday, Oct. 16. The play is being directed by Stacy Park.

Tickets are $15 for adults; $13 for seniors, students and military; and $10 for children younger than 12. Thursday prices are $10 for all seats. Tickets may be purchased at www.newtowneplayers.org, and reservations may be made by calling 301-737-5447.

The play documents the misadventures of Lorelei Lee, a dazzling blonde who describes herself as “a refined girl like I,” and Dorothy, her sensible brunette friend. They are planning to complete their educations by going to Europe for the summer. They’ll “improve their minds” all day, but for their evenings their main interest is in dates.

The Newtowne Players put on several plays and musicals each year. The group’s website says its mission is to give Southern Maryland residents a place to explore their interest in theater, whether they want to be on stage or behind the scenes doing make up, lighting and sound, costume design, or any other capacity. The group works to bring a variety of theatrical experiences to the community and make it affordable for residents to attend.

The Players also will perform “Holmes for the Holidays! or The Game’s Afoot” Dec. 2 through 18.
