Navy Chiefs Will ‘Ride to the Wall’

Ride for the Wall

Riders are being sought to participate in the ninth annual US Navy Chief’s Ride to the Wall.

Leonardtown-based apparel provider NAVYCHIEF.com and the Patuxent River Chief Petty Officer Association are the organizers of the event. This annual ride is intended to honor America’s fallen heroes on Memorial Day and to recognize all those who served. On May 29, the ride will leave St. Mary’s County, make a stop in Hughesville, and end at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.

All riders are welcome to join the chief petty officers as they ride to raise money for the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. The veterans home is the only assisted living veterans home in Maryland and the money raised will go directly to the veterans housed at the home.

Cost of the event is $30 per rider and includes a complimentary T-shirt. The event is open to anyone who wants to ride, and the organizers encourage all to join them as they honor and support veterans.

Riders will meet at the St. Mary’s Regional Airport at 44174 Airport Road in Hollywood between 6 and 6:15 am Sunday, May 29. There will be coffee and doughnuts available, and riders will be able to register if they haven’t done so and pick up T-shirts at that time. The group will leave the airport at approximately 6:30 am and will then proceed to All American Harley-Davidson in Hughesville, arriving between 7:15 and 7:30 am. There the group will join other riders to make their way to the Pentagon to participate in Rolling Thunder 2016.

Donations are being accepted, and all proceeds will support activities at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Deadline to register is on the morning of the event but if riders mail in their registration, organizers would like to receive that no later than Wednesday, May 25. Registration forms may be picked up at King of Tees in Leonardtown at 22665 Van Wert Lane (301-475-0437) and will be placed in local businesses throughout St. Mary’s and Calvert counties.
