Nam Knights Make Donation to Sheriff’s Office

Preliminary Breath Test instruments are in high demand for law enforcement agencies. The devices, used to quickly test alcohol consumption, are one of the most frequently used items in most agencies. In early November, the Nam Knights of America, Skipjack chapter donated a Preliminary Breath Test instrument to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.

The Nam Knights is a group of retired military veterans, active and retired law enforcement officers, who use the generous contributions of members and various fundraisers, to give back to veterans, law enforcement, and local community charities. The group makes a number of donations in needed areas each year.

In summer 1989, a small group of Harley-riding combat veterans of the Vietnam War, who also were police officers, banded together to form the Nam Knights.

Today, the Nam Knights of America Motorcycle Club has grown to 69 chapters in 15 states and two Canadian provinces, with hundreds of members made up of veterans of all eras as well as law enforcement personnel plus a few special and dedicated patriots.

St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Terry Black, commander of the Patrol Division, was able to receive the equipment donation from chapter President Ray Nieves and other Nam Knights officers.

“We are very appreciative of this important equipment donation as it is a piece of equipment that practically gets used every day in the field by deputies enforcing various alcohol related laws to include the operation of motor vehicles while impaired or intoxicated and will certainly get used frequently,” Capt. Black said.

The men and women of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office offers their thanks to the Nam Knights for their consideration for donating this piece of equipment to the agency. The devices are often quite expensive, at more than $500 each, yet are constantly needed in as many sheriff’s office cruisers as possible.
