Late last year, St. Mary’s County commissioners deliberated on the adoption of a blight law directed at Lexington Park, Md., and potentially other densely developed areas in the county.
Compared with the average public attendance at local legislative hearings, the attendance at the hearing of the blight ordinance was fairly well attended and testimony was submitted.
But then, to test the strength of an e-mail outreach to a large, personal contact list, I asked for more comment.
Many dozens of thoughtful comments and opinions were returned, proponents and opponents were represented and additional considerations and ideas were given.
Thus, one e-mail quadrupled public response and has motivated me to pursue this outreach and input effort.
