Groups Help Habitat With Veteran’s Home

Habitat

Local businesses and organizations came together to help Patuxent Habitat for Humanity make critical home repairs for a local US Navy veteran in Great Mills, MD, recently.

D&S Home Improvements, Mold Remediation Services, and Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church, with extra help from Thrivent Financial, were able to complete roof repairs, mold remediation, installation of a vapor barrier and a few other items needed make the home safer and better for this local family.

There are, however, more repairs to be done, to this home and many more. Another veteran home repair was scheduled for later in November 2016, and more will continue to be scheduled until as many homes as possible have been repaired and made safer and more comfortable for our veterans.

Patuxent Habitat for Humanity needs more volunteers and donations to help sustain this program for local veterans. Businesses can help out with materials and man power. Anyone who is interested in helping out a local veteran can call 301-863-6227, ext. 16, for more information.

The Patuxent Habitat for Humanity Veteran Critical Repair Program was created to make repairs to homes for military veterans and their families. The program offers help with repairs identified in Habitat’s Critical Home Repair guidelines, varying from roof repair and structural wall repairs to installing wheel chair ramps and remodeling bathrooms to be easily used by veterans with disabilities. Anyone interested in making a donation or volunteering their time can Laurie at 301-863-6227, ext. 16, or email [email protected] for more information.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity has grown from a grassroots effort that began on a community farm in southern Georgia in 1976 to a global nonprofit housing organization in nearly 1,400 communities across the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. People partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering, or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
