Commission for Women Seeks Best and Brightest

Hoyer Women's History Month

The St. Mary’s County Commission for Women is looking for the county’s best and brightest women. The commission is seeking nominations for the Woman of the Year, an award that recognizes a woman for her charitable and civic service to the St. Mary’s County community.

Each year, the commission also honors Tomorrow’s Woman – a young woman who is in high school (in grades 9 through 12) and is already making a difference through her advocacy, leadership, or service.

The public is needed to submit nominations of an exceptional woman or girl known through her community or workplace, place of worship, or through school or community activities.

Get a nomination packet by visiting the St. Mary’s County Commission for Women’s website. You may also email the commission at [email protected] or call 301-475-4200, ext. *1849.

Criteria for the awards are straightforward. Nominees must have made a positive impact on the St. Mary’s community and they must be a current St. Mary’s County resident. Nomination forms must be submitted by Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017, and winners must commit to attend the Women’s History Month banquet on March 15, 2017, to receive the award in person. The theme for the 2017 dinner is “Honoring Trailblazing Women in Labor and Business.”

The St. Mary’s County Commission for Women asks members of the public to tell friends and family, neighbors, co-workers, faith community, and social networks about the nomination forms. Knowing how many talented and effective women and girls there are in St. Mary’s County, the women’s commission looks forward to receiving many nominations for Woman of the Year and Tomorrow’s Woman.

Members of the St. Mary’s County Commission for Women are appointed by the commissioners of St. Mary’s County and champions women’s issues and concerns.
