Focus on Your Heart Health
February is American Heart Month, making it the perfect time to focus on your heart health.
In Maryland, heart disease is the leading cause of death and accounts for 25 percent of all deaths in the state. St. Mary’s County has even worse numbers, with more heart disease deaths than the state average, and MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital is always looking for ways to help residents live stronger.
But there is good news.
Heart disease, while it is affected by genetics, can often be prevented by making healthy choices and managing health conditions. Lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, healthy eating, exercise, and managing problems like diabetes, high blood pressure and stress can go far on the path to reducing the chances of heart disease.
The resources listed below are just a few that can be used to help you on your journey to a healthier life. Use the resources below to help you control your diabetes, blood pressure or other habits that increase your risk.
