The Southern Maryland Higher Education Center announces its review of a proposal for a new Master’s degree in Robotics Engineering from the Maryland Robotics Center at the Clarke Engineering School, University of Maryland College Park.

The Robotics Center has the mission to advance robotic systems through research and educational programs that serve the private and public sectors and especially the Department of Defense in the area of unmanned aerial systems.

The degree program will assist government and private industry experts in preparing the future robotics workforce and develop new, innovative technologies that save lives, promote infrastructure development, defend our nation, and aid in the manufacture of products that fuel our economy.

The program comes at a time when practicing scientists and engineers are needed in the rapidly developing field of Robotics.

The curriculum is designed to cover core topics in Robotics (Introduction to Robot Modeling, Control of Robotic Systems, Planning for Autonomous Robots, and Perception for Autonomous Robots). Student can customize their educational experience according to their individual needs by selecting from Robotics technical electives or other technical electives offered by the Clark School of Engineering at SMHEC.

Courses in the program will be offered at SMHEC in the spring 2015 semester.
