Foreign Film Fest at SMHEC

Posted for Southern Maryland Higher Education Center

The new World Cinema Series resumes Nov. 13, with Chicken with Plums, at 6:30 pm at the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in the Center Hall. This is the second film in a new series running into January 2015. This second film is from the team work of Iranian born Marjane Satrapi and French born Vincent Paronnaud. Their first film “Persepolis” won many international film awards. It is a wonderful story of unrequited love and the struggles of a talented violinist. It is one of the most visually inventive films in many years.

The Lunch Box  – 2013 runs Dec. 11, at 6:30 pm. An Indian film that takes place in modern day Mombai, it is an engaging story of two lonely people who find each other when a lunchbox is delivered to the wrong office. It stars the very talented Irfan Khan as the recipient of the misguided lunchbox.

The Secret in Their Eyes 2009, runs Jan. 8, 6:30 pm, directed by Juan Jose Campanella as a joint project of Spain and Argentina’s film industry. It is a murder mystery that takes place during Argentina’s dirty war (1976-1983) and won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. It stars Ricardo Darin.  *** Not for all audiences. Graphic violence. ***
