Many residents in the north of St. Mary’s County assumed Pax River was a temporary, war-time arrangement, but Jack Daugherty, a Marine pilot stationed at the Pax at the end of the war, and other ex-Navy personnel thought otherwise, and decided to stay.

Bates, Dunkle, Webster Appointed as Trustees

Three new members of the College of Southern Maryland Board of Trustees have been appointed by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan. Margaret C. Dunkle and Jay W. Webster of Calvert County and Bradley O. Bates of St. Mary’s County are now members of the governing body that provides leadership and oversight of the college’s mission and policies. They will serve five-year terms as part of the nine-member board.

Dr. John Roache has touched the lives of countless patients in St. Mary’s County, many of whom are multiple generations of the same family, as well as friends, co-workers, and neighbors, for more than 42 years at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. As the respected and renowned surgeon retired from his long career, the St. Mary’s County commissioners honored him with a ceremony to thank him for all his years of service.
