Resume Bank Sees More Updates

Hoyer Earns High Score From LCV

Several updates have been made to the House Democrats’ Official Online Resume Bank, announced by House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) this week.

The resume bank was officially re-launched in September with the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), the Blue Dog Coalition, the New Democrat Coalition, the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC), and the LGBT Equality Caucus. Citizens can visit democraticwhip.gov/resumes and submit resumes that are viewable by all new and existing House Democratic offices. Citizens can also view a new job announcements board here and a “Frequently Asked Questions” page with tips on how to best use this resource.

“We are pleased to release these updates, which are the result of feedback from House Democratic offices who regularly use the Resume Bank to hire staff,” said Whip Hoyer. “The Resume Bank is a great resource, especially for our incoming Freshman Members, and it improves House Democrats’ hiring process and strengthens staff diversity. The Resume Bank continues to advance our commitment to openness, transparency, and equal opportunity.”

Now, offices can search resume lists with new fields, including:

  • A field for issue areas in which a candidate has legislative experience (in addition to the previous issue areas of interest).
  • A field for committees that a candidate has experience working with.
  • A field for how soon an applicant is available to begin employment.
  • A field for the type of office an applicant is interested in working in, with options like Blue Dog Office, Committee Office, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Office, Congressional Black Caucus Office, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Office, Congressional Progressive Caucus Office, Leadership Office, LGBT Caucus Office, and New Dem Office.
  • New layout for the internal Resume Bank page for offices that includes instant search filtering of resumes (using the web technology AJAX).
  • New functions in the internal Resume Bank page for current staff to share resume lists that they have built in the Resume Bank with other staffers.
  • New unique code functions, so offices can invite candidates to tag themselves with a specific code to be used by the hiring office.

Candidates who have previously entered the Resume Bank are encouraged to re-apply in order to complete these new fields. As long as applicants use the same email, previous recommendations will be preserved.

Democratic offices are encouraged to use the Resume Bank to help with hiring procedures. Current House Democratic staff are encouraged to leave recommendations on behalf of applicants that they support. Incoming Freshmen Members and staff will be shown how to use the Resume Bank during orientation.

First launched in November 2012, the House Democrats’ Official Resume Bank has been a significant success with nearly 7,000 resumes submitted, more than 6,000 unique visits by House Democratic staff to browse resumes, and more than 500 personalized recommendations left on resumes from current offices and staff. The Resume Bank has been a driver of diversity, as evident by over 2,600 queries performed on demographics data field when current House staff browse resumes. The Resume Bank was updated previously based on feedback from users in both December 2012 and November 2014.
