A Postcard from the Sea

Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) 1st Class Joshua Pasik of Lexington Park, Maryland directs an aircraft on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). The USS Stennis is deployed to the 5th Fleet area of responsibility, conducting maritime security operations, theater security cooperation efforts and support missions for Operation Enduring Freedom.

John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group entered the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility, which includes the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, Persian Gulf and a portion of the Indian Ocean, Oct. 17. The strike group takes the place of the Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, which departed to return to the United States, where the USS Enterprise (CVN 65) will be deactivated after more than 50 years of service.
