Finish a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering in St. Mary’s County

University of Maryland’s juniors and seniors in Electrical Engineering can finish their degrees right in St. Mary’s County. The Southern Maryland Higher Education Center is partnering with UMCP’s A. James Clark School of Engineering to offer the undergraduate degree.

Students who want to apply to the program must first complete their freshman and sophomore years and general education courses. Also, students have to be eligible for admittance to the University of Maryland at the A. James Clark School of Engineering. To be admitted to the program, students must have a cumulative GPA of a 3.0 and completion of specific gateway courses.

Details about these requirements can be found online or by going to the SMHEC website  under ‘Universities’. Prerequisites are met by the CSM ESE-EE AA degree. Degree applications are due in to UMD by February 1–March 1, 2016.

The local SMHEC program will involve both Navy Scholarship and non-scholarship students. The Navy Scholarship students complete two summers of intern duty along with and in addition to the academic program and receive full funding for tuition, fees, and books. Non-Navy Scholarship students are not involved in the intern program. Navy scholarship students then work for a Department of Defense facility nationwide for two years, including Patuxent River Naval Air Station as a preferred choice.
