Admission to Great Mills Pool Goes Up

Starting Jan. 15, 2016, admission into the Great Mills swimming pool will increase slightly.

Rates for youth open swim will go from $4 to $5. Admission for adult open swim will increase from $5 to $6. Lap swimmers will no longer pay $3, the rate will go up to $4.

The pool, located at 21100 Great Mills Road, is operated by St. Mary’s County Recreation and Parks. The pool is open for public swimming from 10 am to 8 pm Monday through Saturday and from noon to 6 pm Sunday. There are designated lap swim times Monday through Saturday for those who want to swim laps exclusively. Lap swim is designated from 6 to 10 am Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Lap swim time also is offered from 8 to 10 am Tuesday and Thursday. On Saturday, lap swim is held from 8 am to noon. There is no designated lap time on Sunday.

The Great Mills swimming pool provides county residents and visitors of all ages with the opportunity for recreational, therapeutic, instructional, and competitive swimming.

The pool is 25 yards by 25 meters and includes six lanes. It has has a “zero depth” entry for maximum accessibility. In cooler months, the pool is covered by an air-inflated bubble, which is removed in the summer, so it can be used all year.

There are showers, lockers, restrooms, and a lifeguard guard on the premises.

During inclement weather, the pool closes if lightning is observed and all swimmers are asked to leave the water immediately. The pool stays closed for 30 minutes after the last lightning strike has been seen.
