MedStar St. Mary’s Thanks Medical Staff

MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital Board of Directors extends their appreciation to all Medical Staff members in commemoration of National Doctors’ Day, held on March 30, 2015. Our physicians blend the science of healing and the art of caring as they professionally and compassionately care for their patients.

“I am honored to be affiliated with this hospital that has such a dedicated, compassionate and professional Medical Staff members,” said Barbara Thompson, chairman of the MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital Board of Directors. “Our Medical Staff’s commitment to patients and the advancement of medicine contributes enormously to the health of our community and the quality of this hospital.”

Chief Operating Officer and Chief Medical Officer, Stephen Michaels, MD, said, “Each physician brings their own knowledge, experience and expertise to this hospital. With a desire to be educated in leading-edge treatment protocols, our physicians devote themselves to providing safe, high-quality care to all their patients.”

Doctors’ Day was first observed March 30, 1933. Since then, it is celebrated annually to acknowledge the anniversary of the first use of general anesthetic in surgery on March 30, 1842 by physician Crawford Long. In 1990, President George Bush signed a resolution designating March 30 as National Doctors’ Day, the first of which was celebrated in 1991.

MedStar St. Mary’s will be celebrating its medical professionals on April 2 with a fellowship breakfast and a special gift to them. We are thankful not just on Doctors’ Day, but every day for the world-class service our Medical Staff provides our community.
