PaxSpace Open House Sunday, July 13

Posted for The Patuxent Partnership
Pax III

What do 3D printing, CAD, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and catapults have in common? They can all be found at PaxSpace, the Southern Maryland MakerSpace.

The Patuxent Partnership  works with government, industry and academia on initiatives in science and technology, hosts programs of interest to NAVAIR and the broader DoD community, supports workforce development including education initiatives and professional development.

In line with its mission, TPP is helping foster the growth of PaxSpace, a member-operated Makerspace with a mission to inspire lifelong learning and innovation. PaxSpace is committed to coordinating and providing education and scientific awareness to its members and throughout the community.

The Patuxent Partnership is pleased to announce summer sponsorship (July – August) for rising high school seniors and juniors interested in becoming PaxSpace Members. TPP will sponsor the first 20 St. Mary’s County or Calvert County students to apply for membership. This is a great opportunity to work on creative projects and utilize tools not regularly available for personal use.

To see if this is for you, come out Sunday, July 13 to the PaxSpace Summer Open House. The Space will be open for tours from 11 am to 5 pm.

You will have the opportunity to meet PaxSpace instructors and discuss classes that are being offered, as well as voice your opinion on classes you would like to see. PaxSpace Board members will be present and ready to greet you.  Demonstrations will include 3D printing and the first ever PaxSpace Catapult Competition.

Makerspace.com describes itself as a “community center with tools.” In that vein, PaxSpace offers workspace and storage for members to pursue projects from tech to art, fostering the spirit of “make it in America” and strengthening our local Southern Maryland community.

PaxSpace accesses facilities which include computers, electronics, soldering stations, 3D Printer, extensive wood shop, and growing metal shop capabilities; offers classes free or at a nominal fee reflective of the mentioned facilities (check their classes); and offers storage space for use by members to pursue projects related to art and technology.

PaxSpace is located in the St. Mary’s Industrial Park on Airport View Dr.
