Expect Delays

The 2nd annual Pride in Park Parade starts promptly at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, leaving from the parking lot of the Bay District Volunteer Fire Department on South Shangri-La Drive in Lexington Park. The route will follow Shangri-La to South Essex to Great Mills Road and then back to the Fire Department via the alley near Raley’s Home Furnishings.

The route will close these and surrounding blocks from 9:45 until the end of the parade.

Spectators are encouraged to line the parade route.

At the parade’s conclusion a carnival, complete with rides for children, opens at St. Mary’s Square on Great Mill’s Road.

Spectator parking will be available at the Millison Plaza and St. Mary’s Square shopping centers as well as John G. Lancaster Park.

Those driving into the area should be aware of several road closures beginning at 9:45 a.m. and continuing for the duration of the parade. South Shangri-La Drive, South Essex Drive and Great Mills Road, from South Essex Drive to Route 235, will be closed along with a number of side streets along the route. Detours will be established to guide drivers to alternate routes.

The Pride in the Park Parade is sponsored by the Lexington Park Business and Community Association and this year celebrates the 70th anniversary of the commissioning of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Lexington Park.
