St. Mary’s Gov’t Veterans Day Operations
All St. Mary’s County government administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in observance of Veterans Day. Offices will resume normal operating schedules on November 12.
Bells of Peace Will Ring Nov. 11
The bells at St. Clement’s Island Museum and Piney Point Lighthouse Museum will toll at 11am November 11, 2025, to honor the 116,516 Americans, including the 27 St. Mary’s County natives, who died in World War I.
Vets Day Parade Steps Off at 10am Nov. 11
Leonardtown salutes America’s veterans at the annual Veterans Day Parade on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. The parade steps off from St. Mary’s Ryken High School at 10am and proceeds through town.
Sheriff’s Office Moving to New Alert System
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is transitioning to a new alert and tip submission platform: tip411, which will replace the Nixle system currently in use. Nixle alerts will end November 12, 2025, and current subscribers will not automatically transfer to the new system.
Mural Unveiled at Pax River Village Center
Artist Rosalia Torres-Weiner has created a mural at the Pax River Village Center on Great Mills Road to honor the Latino community. “Painting this mural in Lexington Park has been such a gift!” she says.
Judy Center Celebrates 25th Anniversary
The first Judy Center in Charles County celebrated its 25th anniversary in October. The center, housed at Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School, opened in fall 2000 after state lawmakers enacted the Judith P. Hoyer Early Child Care and Education Enhancement Program earlier that year.
Co-op Youth Program Delegates Give Back to Their Communities

Pax to Monitor Sonic Booms
Pax River will be installing a sonic boom noise monitoring system for test flights over Chesapeake Bay for experts to study supersonic flight tests and reduce their noise impacts in the restricted airspace over the watershed.
St. Clement’s Extends Water Taxi Service to Island
The water taxi service offered at St. Clement’s Island Museum will operate an extended season in November 2025, while the main museum building is being reconstructed and temporarily closed to the public.
