Rhythm & Steel for St. Mary’s 10th MLK Day
Posted for Lexington Park Business and Community Association Bay LeaderTen years ago, citizens of St. Mary’s County found a welcoming venue at St. Mary’s College of Maryland to celebrate Martin Luther King Day with a breakfast, music, and prayers.
“Who would have thought, 10 years ago that we would still have the energy that we started with?” asked this year’s master of ceremonies Kelsey Bush, Youth & Local Management Board Coordinator for St. Mary’s County and also Commissioner of Maryland Commission of Black History.
Officials spoke and participants shared breakfast, but as always it was the young people who delivered the energy.
“It’s a great way to wake-up,” Mr. Bush introduced the day after the opening performances of Spring Ridge Middle School’s rhythm band and Great Mills High School’s steel band. Hard acts to follow:
