There will be an induction ceremony May 21 at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station for the SH-3A Sea King (BuNo 148038).

The Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King was introduced in 1961 and served the US Navy as an anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter. The aircraft was a landmark design, the world’s first amphibious helicopter and one of the first ASW rotorcraft to use turboshaft engines, according to Wikipedia.

As with other successful military innovations, the SH-3 Sea King went on to serve in civil service and with ally forces. Many remain in service around the world.

Col. Robert Pridgen, USMC, PMA-274 and CAPT Brent Pierson, USN, NTWL Commodore will be special guests at the ceremony, May 21, 2015, 4 pm at the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum.

Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to the ceremony. Contact Scott Bruce at 301-904-5143 for more information or at [email protected].
