Open Houses in February at USCT Interpretive Center

Interpretive Center

See the US Colored Troops Medal of Honor recipient exhibits at the USCT Interpretive Center in the Lexington Manor Passive Park during free open houses during Black History Month.

The open houses will be held from 10am to 2pm every Wednesday and Saturday in February.

On the trail between the Lexington Manor Passive Park and John G. Lancaster Park, you can learn about the Civil War era in St. Mary’s County and the African American troops on interpretive panels that lead to the statue of the soldier.

Inside the building, you can also learn about the local Medal of Honor recipients who served in the US Colored Troops and fought for the Union during the American Civil War.

There is also an exhibit about the segregated school system in the county, including information about the Drayden African American Schoolhouse, which is open by appointment and on the first and third Saturdays of the month, April through October.

The open house events are free; donations are accepted. Staff will be on hand to answer any questions.

The US Colored Troops Interpretive Center is at 21675 S. Coral Drive in Lexington Park, MD.
