The J. Patrick Jarboe Mobile Health Center hosted its first public tours this month with a bit of tire-kicking as well.

Dr. Jarboe’s son, Tom Jarboe, leads the brief video tour below.

In an emotional plea, Tom Jarboe led efforts in the spring to fund a replacement state-of-the-art mobile healthcare unit to be named after his father. It was Dr. Jarboe who conceived of the program and using -what wasn’t a new van then – put primary health care on the road in 2008. The mobile health van has been serving the un- and underinsured in the community ever since.

As a testimonial to the breadth and depth Dr. Jarboe touched this community, the outpouring of donations made the nearly $500,000 van a reality before the end of this year.
The J. Patrick Jarboe Mobile Medical Center is a fully realized medical center. It has a waiting room, two examination rooms, and a “full-sized potty” that drew mention by more than one of the mobile unit workers. And it has a very happy driver who had been keeping the old van on the road well beyond its lifespan.

Here Tom Jarboe starts off the video tour, County Commission President Jack Russell kicks the tires and Del. John Bohanan recalls when mobile medical care meant Dr. Jarboe drove his own car and made house calls.
