Jobs Report: Payrolls Up, Jobless Rate Down
The US Labor Department’s September 2024 jobs report shows that 254,000 jobs were added to the American economy last month. Rep. Steny H. Hoyer said the report “testifies to our economy’s lasting vigor.”
“Now, more than 16 million jobs have been added to the economy since President Biden and Vice President Harris took office. No administration in American history can boast such a strong record on job creation,” he said. “Last month, the unemployment rate also fell to 4.05%. More Americans are working today than at any point in history and a greater share of our population is working today than at any point under the previous administration. On top of a sturdy labor market, wages outpaced inflation by 1.5 percentage points over the last year.
The congressman said the all signs point to the soft landing that the Biden-Harris administration envisioned amid the height of the pandemic in 2021.
“Democrats came together to make that vision a reality, passing historic laws to lower costs, create jobs, and Invest in America and in Americans. As chair of the Regional Leadership Council, I’ve been proud to help implement these historic laws in every corner of the country. Those policies – and the industrious spirit of the American people – have made our economy the envy of the world. If this report is any indication, the world will continue to envy it for a long time to come.”
