Vice Adm. David Architzel, commander of Naval Air Systems Command, and his wife Barbara opened the lawn of the historic Mattapany for a concert by the U.S. Navy Commodores, the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble in honor of a Centennial of Naval Aviation.

Earlier in the day, Captain Stephen Schmeiser, commander of Naval Air Station Patuxent River,  welcomed the Blue Angels to NAS Pax River in anticipation of this centennial year’s traditional Labor Day air show.

The band is a specialty unit of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C. Under the leadership of Senior Chief Musician Philip M. Burlin, the 18 musicians wowed the crowd with their traditional jazz, popular and patriotic music.
