It’s Showtime! … Now at a New Location

Showtime Deli now at:
21905 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, MD 20653

Owner Jonathan Gelrud passes along the famous Showtime Deli family recipes to Dalton Oswalt in the expanded deli, reopened in a bigger place, with easier parking.

The long-awaited sequel to one of the most popular breakfast and lunch stops in Lexington Park has arrived: Showtime Deli opened its doors at a new location as the lights went on at 7am Nov. 3.

The aroma of Scrapple, home fries, and coffee greeted diners anxious to see the Gelrud family’s latest production.

Within days, the reviews were in on the reopening of this landmark St. Mary’s County business at 21905 Three Notch Road. It’s a hit!

The New York-style deli offers the same great food, same friendly faces, all in a brand-new space with more room for diners — from 30 seats at the Great Mills Road location to 74 at the new spot, plus a conference room for private events.

The new locale offers much easier parking for the breakfast and lunch crowd, sharing a parking lot with Ledo’s Pizza.

What owner Jonathan Gelrud hasn’t changed is the Hollywood movie theme first popularized by his father, Paul Gelrud, years ago.

In addition to the decor, diners will recognize Hollywood names in the menu offerings. They’ll still find sandwiches such as the Frankly Scarlet, I Don’t Give a Ham; The Cotton Club; The Italian Stallion; and The Philadelphia Story.

“Awesome. The mid-week special of the Filet Mignon Philadelphia Story is my favorite. The mac salad is always great,” wrote a Showtime Deli fan on Facebook after the new location was announced. (FYI: The Philadelphia Story features grilled steak, sauteed peppers and onions, and melted cheese.) Showtime teases the sandwich with this: Lights, camera, cheesesteak!”

Other famous movie lines will still entice the hungry to stop in for a bite:

“Just when you thought you were out… we pull you back in. Because today’s special at Showtime Deli is an offer you can’t refuse. Introducing: The Italian Stallion — a made man in the sandwich game.
Stacked high with prosciutto, capicola, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato, hot peppers, roasted red peppers, and that signature Showtime dressing (a closely guarded family recipe).

“NOW SHOWING: ‘GRAVY HUGS & BISCUITS’ A heartwarming tale of comfort food, Southern charm, and a whole lot of flavor. … Because sometimes… your soul just needs a hug from gravy. Cue the slow-mo: fluffy biscuits drenched in rich, house-made sausage gravy starring in the role of breakfast hero. And for just a buck more, bring two eggs into the plot twist.”

“We’ve worked hard to recreate the same friendly atmosphere you’ve come to love — now on a bigger stage! We can’t wait to welcome all our loyal customers, families, and friends to experience the new and improved Showtime Deli,” reads the announcement on Facebook. The Gelrud family’s commitment to the phrase “Dine here and make new Friends” is on display.

Along with movie-themed photos and posters, new drawings from local artist and musician Longman Joseph Norris can be found on the walls. Look for drawings of entertainment heavyweights John Wayne, Ol’ Blue Eyes Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, King Kong, The Wicked Witch of the West, and others.

The first Showtime Deli operated on Coral Drive for 11 years from 1988 to 1999 and was founded by Jonathan’s dad, Paul (aka Paulie) and a couple of uncles. Jonathan’s grandfather, Jack Gelrud, was among the early entrepreneurs active in the business community in “The Park,” opening the first pharmacy in Lexington Park.

As for the encore Showtime Deli, Jonathan reopened in 2016 on Great Mills Road, less than a mile away from the original on Coral Drive. Papa Paulie stepped in to lend a hand. The new location on Three Notch Road isn’t far from either of the other two previous locations, and Paul and Jonathan can still be found hard at work in the kitchen!

Showtime is open from 7am to 4pm Monday-Friday, 7am to 3pm Saturday, and also open on Sunday.
