County, Schools Holiday Schedules
In observance of the upcoming holidays, all St. Mary’s County government administrative offices will be closed on Tuesday, December 24, 2024; Wednesday, December 25, 2024; Thursday, December 26, 2024; and Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Program/location specific hours and exclusions are outlined below.
Public Schools Holiday Operations
All St. Mary’s County Public Schools and Offices will be closed to the public from Monday, December 23, 2024, through Friday, January 3, 2025. All schools and offices will reopen on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Health Department Holiday Operations
The St. Mary’s County Health Department main office in Leonardtown and all satellite offices will be closed on:
- Tuesday, December 24, 2024
- Wednesday, December 25, 2024
- Thursday, December 26, 2024
- Wednesday, January 1, 2025
Christmas Tree Disposal
Residents may drop off undecorated Christmas trees at the landfill and convenience centers, free of charge, beginning on December 26, 2024, through January 31, 2025. Trees must be undecorated and placed in the designated areas at these sites.
Last year, county government collected nearly two tons of Christmas trees, which were mixed with collected yard waste and ground into mulch. Over 5,000 tons of mulch is available annually at the St. Andrew’s Landfill site and is provided to county citizens free of charge, while supplies last.
