The area around the Colony Square entrance may still be experiencing construction, but after last weekend’s annual Encourage Hope Day Community Cleanup, the neighborhood is looking trimmed and tidy.

Three Oaks Center is a local nonprofit organization providing residential and supportive services to the homeless and those in need. During the Encourage Hope cleanup, community members not only receive assistance in rejuvenating their neighborhood, but can enjoy a picnic-like atmosphere, food and fun.

This year a speaker came to talk to community members about maintaining hope through hard times and personal struggles.

Volunteers of all ages help in any way they can. Children accompany their parents and help pull weeds, carry trash bags and pick up trash. Adults handle bigger jobs, such as weed-whacking, leaf blowing and removal of large items. Once again members of the Great Mills High School Football team came out to help in this cleanup and to give back to the community.

More information on the Three Oaks Center, the community cleanup and other services such as veteran support can be found online, or through one of many contact channels.
