Annual MLK Prayer Celebration Set Jan. 19

The 21st annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Celebration will be held January 19, 2026, at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Breakfast opens at 6:30am in the Campus Center Great Room. Cost is $17.85 at the door for breakfast. There is no cost for the program which will begin at 8am.

The keynote speaker will be Tanya Hughes, an Olympian and St. Mary’s County native.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will be accepting donations: diapers for the Maryland Diaper Bank, non-perishable food items for the student pantries at St. Mary’s College and College of Southern Maryland, and new hats and gloves for the Robert J. Fuller House.

Sponsors for the event are St. Mary’s College of Maryland, St. Mary’s County Branch NAACP The 7025, St. Mary’s County Human Relations Commission, St. Mary’s County Public Schools, College of Southern Maryland, Ivy & Pearls of So. Md. Community Charities, AKA Nu Zeta Omega chapter, and Unified Committee for Afro-American Contributions.

A Day of Service will be held from 11am to 3pm Saturday, January 24.

Host sites will be the St. Mary’s County Arts Council, Three Oaks Center, Building Bridges Corp., Jamaur Law Foundation Inc., Patuxent River Naval Air Museum, Historic McConchie One Room School, Patuxent Habitat for Humanity, Lexington Park Library, and The Mission.
