health care logoAs the first week of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) begins and states across the country struggle to meet key deadlines for the nation’s new healthcare insurance plan the Waring-Ahearn Insurance Agency can assist you with enrollment and understanding.

Discussing your personal and company insurance needs can particularly benefit from a Waring-Ahearn consultation since the agency has the advantage of carrying products outside the exchange for the most comprehensive product comparison available.

Maryland is in better shape than most states with its site ready to go. Called Maryland Health Connection, you can enroll by phone, mail, or in person. The site is also a font of information on the upcoming deadlines, details on coverage, how Medicaid is impacted, how small businesses are affected, and whether you qualify for a subsidy. And there are helpful links, answers to frequently asked questions, fact sheets, and calculators.

Enrollment for individuals looking for health insurance options began Oct. 1; coverage begins Jan. 1, 2014.

About 800,000 residents, or 14% of the state, do not have health coverage. Anyone can apply for health insurance through the site.

Calvert Healthcare Solutions will be the connector to help with enrollment and eligibility for Southern Maryland. The organization will work with Walden Sierra in St. Mary’s County to provide outreach. Helpers also will be at community events distributing information and answering your questions.

Why are other states behind? As the U.S. Congress continues to struggle with “Obamacare,”  and because some states thought Congressional and legal efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act would be successful, they did not begin getting ready to meet the deadlines. Plus, many states are planning to rely on the federal government’s national Internet marketplace.
