VADM Dunaway Takes Command of NAVAIR

Vice Adm. David “Decoy” Dunaway Thursday took the helm of the Naval Air Systems Command, the largest tenant command at Naval Air Station Patuxent River and the center for all U.S. Naval Aviation activity.

Vice Adm.. Dunaway replaces Vice Adm. David “Archie” Architzel, who retired from 39 years of Navy service. Dunaway previously served as commander of the Operational Test and Evaluation Force in Norfolk, Va. and head of the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division in China Lake, Ca.

Congressmen Steny Hoyer; Adm. Jonathan Greenert, Chief of Naval Operations; and Sean Stackley, Assistant Secretary of the Navy spoke at the ceremony, held at the Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Twenty (VX-20) hangar, marking the change of command and Vice Adm. Architzel’s retirement.
