Service providers filled the Southern Maryland Higher Education Center at the first Veterans Stand Down Day presented last month by the Southern Maryland Veterans Initiative spearheaded by the Three Oaks Center.

The Southern Maryland Veterans Initiative plans to offer a Veterans Stand Down Day every year to connect vets with available  community resources and services.

The complement of resources made available at the first Stand Down included health care, dental care, housing, employment, counseling, and access to VA benefits. To get more information on these and other resources available to veterans and the homeless in Southern Maryland contact Three Oaks Center or Walden Behavioral Health.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs also has information about what communities can do to assist the homeless veterans who deserve their nation’s gratitude.
