VA Opening New Outpatient Center in Charlotte Hall

Congressman Steny H. Hoyer released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced plans to open a new Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, which is expected to become operational in 2013:

“All veterans, no matter where they live, should have access to high-quality health care, and today’s announcement that the VA plans to open a new CBOC in Charlotte Hall will ensure that Southern Maryland veterans have access to the services they need close to home. The CBOC in Charlotte Hall that is currently providing Southern Maryland veterans with critical health care services is over-capacity and cannot fully meet the needs of our community. For that reason, I have been working with VISN-5, federal, state, and local officials, and area veterans on obtaining the funding needed to open a new, ADA-compliant CBOC that will replace the CBOC currently used. While the new facility is being constructed, there will be no break in services currently provided. I’m hopeful that our community will be able to access the new CBOC as soon as next year, and I will continue fighting to ensure Maryland’s veterans and their families don’t have to travel far distances to get the care they need and deserve.”
