Dan Dawson on History in a Barrel: From Hogshead to Cask
Historic Sotterley will present People & Perspectives with Dan Dawson, co-founder of Tobacco Barn Distillery, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
Mr. Dawson will delve into his family’s rich farming history, transitioning from tobacco to small grains, and now to bourbon production.
The free hybrid event will take place at 7pm, offering both in-person and virtual attendance options. Registration is required.

Mr. Dawson will share stories about the impact of NAS Patuxent River’s development on the local farming community, the tobacco buyout, and the rise of bourbon as America’s spirit. He will also highlight Southern Maryland’s historical significance as bourbon’s true birthplace.
Attendees of legal drinking age will have the opportunity to sample Tobacco Barn’s current products and purchase bottles, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Historic Sotterley.
In-person participants are welcome to a pre-reception at 6:15pm.
