If Albert Einstein,  Benjamin Franklin, Eli Whitney or George Washington Carver were hanging out in Southern Maryland today, you’d likely as not run into them March 23 at the PaxSpace Spring Open House.

PaxSpace, in the St. Mary’s Industrial Park on Airport View Dr., is paving the path for development of a Makerspace where people can meet and work on their projects. Makerspace.com describes itself as a “community center with tools.”

Already PaxSpace accesses facilities which include computers, electronics, soldering stations, 3D Printer, extensive wood shop, and growing metal shop capabilities; offers classes free or at a nominal fee reflective of the mentioned facilities (check their classes); and offers storage space for use by members to pursue projects related to art and technology.

“Our goal,” reads their website, “is to find 50-100 like-minded inventors, builders, and hobbyists that would like a common space with fellow individuals with similar interests and all the tools, equipment needed to perform that activity. We are looking for a 1,500-3,000 square-foot industrial/office facility to make our home in.

“We provide education by giving free lectures and slideshows in our public space open to the public and members and other public venues as well as utilizing social media channels and the corporation’s website to provide education on the use of tools and knowledge to create innovated items for the members and the public.”

The open house provides an opportunity to meet the instructors, and discuss classes being offered.

The open house is scheduled from 11 am – 5 pm, March 23, 2014,  at PaxSpace, 44178 Airport View Dr., Building 2, Bay 13, Hollywood, MD 20636. For more information, please contact Nick Clark at [email protected].
