Three Oaks Recieves VA Grant for Homeless Veterans
Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) announced Wednesday that Three Oaks Center has received a $219,192 homeless prevention grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The grant will support approximately 192 veteran families who are homeless or at risk for homelessness in St. Mary’s, Charles, and Calvert Counties.
“Thanks to this grant awarded to Three Oaks Center, nearly 200 veteran families in Southern Maryland will have the supportive services needed to stay in their homes or transition to permanent housing,” stated Congressman Hoyer. “We must do more to honor our commitment to veterans and their families here in Maryland and throughout the country, and I will continue working to ensure they have the support and resources they earned and deserve.”
“We are honored to have been chosen by the VA to provide these much needed services to veteran families in the Southern Maryland area,” stated H. S. “Lanny” Lancaster, Executive Director of Three Oaks Center. “Our community leads the state in its concentration of veteran households and we are grateful to the VA for recognizing our needs. We have experienced a surge of requests from veterans who have been experiencing difficulty as a direct result of their recent service in war areas and from others who are simply experiencing the difficulties of a troubled economy. Now, with the help of the VA, we will be able to do much more to help them.”
The grant announced today is part of the VA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program, which helps homeless and at-risk veteran families improve their housing stability.
